This is the second book in a series about an actress in New York who works as a singing waitress at a mobster bar. But she is also friends with a magician. She and her friend find out about a mob war about to start, and do their best to prevent it while keeping the fact of magic away from people like her boyfriend, a detective who doesn’t believe in magic.

This book was a quick read and fun, but not a lot of substance. The main character seems to have changed a lot from the third book (which I read first). It’s not a book I would buy in hardback, and I suspect I won’t remember much about it in four months. But it was a nice way to pass a few hours.
